Pink salmon reaching Fraser River in massive numbers
MARK HUME, VANCOUVER — The Globe and Mail, Published Thursday, Sep. 12 2013
...The massive return of one species – pinks – coming on the heels of a disastrous run of another – sockeye – may be linked to a dramatic shift in ocean conditions last year. And it has raised questions about the possible role of a controversial experiment that took place when the Haida Salmon Restoration Corp. dumped iron material in the ocean last summer, stimulating plankton growth just as the pink salmon were moving through the area.

Fall chinook run smashing all records on Columbia
Spokesman Review, Sept. 12, 2013
SALMON FISHING — It's not a run of fall chinook coming up the Columbia River this season, it's a stampede...“It’s a string that is mind-boggling, historic — Chin-pocalypse in the words of one angler who stands to reap the benefits, king-ageddon,” exclaims Andy Walgamott of Northwest Sportsman magazine. “It’s not just the Columbia. There are signs that Puget Sound pink salmon were hugely underforecast, and the Oregon and California Coasts’ Chinook season was bonkers.”

'The numbers are staggering'
By Neil Horner - Parksville Qualicum Beach News, September 10, 2013
There was a time when you could practically walk across Nile Creek on the backs of spawning pink salmon. There was also a time — not that long ago — when the watercourse was nearly devoid of fish. Thanks to Ken Kirkby and the Nile Creek Enhancement Society though, the creek is once again near — or even beyond — its original abundance.

Chilliwack Times, Sept. 3, 2013
Salmon fishers were back on the Fraser River this weekend.
Cooler water, improved sockeye run-size forecasts and reports that sockeye had started to arrive at spawning grounds in “good shape,” prompted fisheries officials to lift a ban on Fraser salmon fishing imposed in mid-August to protect the vulnerable species.
