Why is salmon a superfood?
Salmon is one of nature’s superfoods. This tasty food packs in protein, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins A, a range of B vitamins, D, E, and B-carotene, zinc, iron, copper, manganese and selenium, as well as calcium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium — all of which are vital to a healthy balanced diet.
1. There are no hormones or genetic modifications used to enhance growth in B.C.’s farm-raised salmon.
2. B.C. farm-raised salmon has higher omega-3 levels than most other fish sources and is recommended as an important addition to a nutritious diet.
3. Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial in preventing heart disease and reducing the risk of cancer, as well as lowering cholesterol levels.
4. Because it contains vitamins A, B12, and D, salmon can work as a natural antidepressant.
