..The Fraser River Panel met Thursday, September 25 to review stock assessment data on the Fraser River sockeye runs, consider harvest opportunities and review migration conditions in the Fraser River watershed. At the meeting today the run size estimate of 7,900,000 Summer run sockeye was increased to 8,100,000 fish making the total 2014 Fraser River sockeye run size estimate 21,033,500. The current adopted run sizes, by management group are 233,500 Early Stuart, 1,900,000 Early Summer run, 8,100,000 Summer run and 10,800,000 Late run sockeye.

If you're hoping to watch the sockeye salmon jumping as they swim up the Fraser River, you'll want to make some time to head to the water's edge this week. Fisheries and Oceans Canada says there could be as many as 23 million sockeye returning to spawn this year, after three years out in the open water.
